Ladybug Mini Cupcakes

I decided that I wanted to make some mini cupcakes. I had wanted to make a batch of ladybug cupcakes and caterpillar cupcakes. But since I ended up with 3 dozen mini ladybug's, I figured that was enough.

I used just a regular lemon cake mix (shame on me) and I made the frosting myself. It's buttercream that I flavored with lemon extract.

Here is my little taste tester Emma. She was my helper all the way through. Especially adding the food coloring.

I got the frosting recipe from here http://cupcakeblog.com/index.php/2006/12/cherry-vanilla-cupcakes/ Instead of vanilla I added lemon extract.

Overall I am happy with how they turned out. I think they are cute and my kid's got a kick out of them, so that makes my heart smile.
